Dedicated to the study and performance of the string literature, Ritorno a Musica provides a friendly, supportive and professional environment for members to improve and broaden their musical skills. The ensemble presents free concerts to the public through area libraries, local houses of worship and senior centers in Northern Virginia.
Members are adults of various musical experience and proficiency. The group provides an opportunity for players to return to the music of their youth; accomplished musicians to seek an opportunity to perform on a second instrument; composers to hear their works performed; musicians to work their way back from an injury and much more.
The group features repertoire from the Baroque, Classical, Romantic and Contemporary eras. Ritorno a Musica was founded in 2007 as the Annandale Strings.

Now in our 16th season, Ritorno a Musica invites you to join us for a variety of concerts that aim to engage, entertain and enrich both the listener and performer through a shared experience. Programs feature musical treasures of the past, music of underrepresented composers, as well as new compositions that seek to bridge the past with the future.
This season, we are excited to share the musical stage with area youth in two side-by-side performances. On November 18th, we’ll feature Joseph Bologne’s Symphony no. 1 in G Major, scored for string orchestra, 2 oboes and 2 French horns. On May 11th, area youth will join us for Ralph Vaughan Williams’ Concerto Grosso for String Orchestra. Vaughan Williams wrote the piece to highlight three string orchestras, each of a different skill level.
